Why Should Employers Hire You?
I have a question for you. Do you know why employers should hire you?
Do you have your story ready? Because a lot of my clients going through my Career Success Program are struggling with this.
They can't sell themselves.
They don't know their story and are frustrated because they have so many years of experience yet are unable to connect the dots in a story that is compelling and tells others why they should hire them.
It’s crucial you have your story ready, because your story is essentially your elevator pitch.
You use your elevator pitch in an interview, in a networking event, on your resume, in your LinkedIn profile and this is what attracts head-hunters.
If you’re not getting job opportunities that really match your skills and experience, if you're not getting approached, then you have to work on your story because it is so important and if done right, the impact is going to be incredible.
So, I want to tell you the story of Emma. Emma is a senior manager with over 15 years experience and she wanted to get to the next level – a director's role.
Emma had worked in several roles at director's level, but was unable to get one when she was applying for new opportunities, so we created her story.
We created her pitch, and that helped her understand how she needed to position herself to get to the next level.
Because, here's the thing, if you just summarise what you’ve done, you’re not going to get to there.
You need to think from the perspective of whom you would be reporting into.
For example, a director might report to the CEO, so you need to imagine; if I was in that position, what problem would my CEO have that I could solve?
So, looking forward should be the start of creating your story, because what got you to your current role as a senior manager is not necessarily going to help you get to that next level.
You need to up your game because, otherwise, it isn’t going to happen.
So, Emma and I created her story. We positioned her how she wanted to be perceived - as a leader, as a director, and then we translated that into her resume.
We optimised her LinkedIn profile so head-hunters would approach her and we did mock interviews so she would be able to tell her story in an interview.
And guess what? She ended up with three job offers for director's level positions!
So the power you have in creating your story is massive.
It doesn’t really matter what level you’re at. If you want to step up in your career, make sure you know your story. If this resonates with you, and you want my help to get there, then book in a call.
We’ll discuss what I can do to help you create your story, the strategy and all the little pieces that fit together to get to where you want to be.
Take control over your career. Take the first right step. It doesn't have to be daunting. I'm here to help and support you, and I love serving my clients and getting them amazing results.
