The High Performers Trap: Are you Feeling Trapped in Your Job?

The High Performers Trap: Are you Feeling Trapped in Your Job?

Hi, it’s Caroline, your career coach and mentor.

Today, I want to talk about the high performance trap.

If you’re a high performer and you feel that you’re trapped in your career, I want to give you some insights on what to do next.

Because, you're not alone.

I was talking with one of my clients and she said that she’s killing herself right now because she has set such a high standard and she's now afraid of the consequences if she drops that standard.

And the reason it's not sustainable anymore is because of her family commitment.

This is a very common problem and here’s what I want you to do:

1. Think of yourself and your family.

If you keep doing the things that you’re doing, it’s not going to end well.

It’s the reason why people get burned out or too stressed and acquire health and well-being problems.

The worst thing to happen is when you bring it home and it starts to affect your family and friends too because they can see how much pressured you are.

You have to take a step back and think if it’s all worth it.

I know you have set that standard but think if that’s really what you want for your career.

How much longer are you going to tolerate it?

How much longer can you do it physically?

2. Think about the consequences.

Sometimes, we are so afraid of the consequences even if they may not be real or not as bad as you think they are.

Make a list of everything you believe may happen.

Think about the worst case scenarios.

If you keep on doing what you’re doing and burn yourself out, you’re going to quit anyway.

So instead of going through all that, start making the necessary changes.

That could make all the difference.

You’re in control and you don’t have to tolerate any unhealthy situation because you won’t win if you do that.

We always think that we owe it to the company or they are expecting those things from us.

But the most important thing is to take care of yourself.

3. Think of that one change you’re going to make.

What action are you going to take today to change your future?

I always stand for transformation.

Transformation happens when people make little changes or take small actions.

What’s your small step for today?
