How To Get Unstuck And Reignite Your Passion

How To Get Unstuck And Reignite Your Passion

One of my clients from my Career Success Program was feeling completely stuck at work.

She didn't know how to move forward and it was impacting her life.

She was waking up at night, thinking, "I'm not happy, but I don't know what to change”. She didn’t know how to take the next step.

So, she came to me and said, "Caroline, before doing all the work we’ve mapped out, I want to get clarity."

So, we went through an exercise that I'm going to share with you today, to get you unstuck and to reignite your passion, because for her, it was invaluable and very powerful.

It gave her the clarity she needed to be laser-focused on the results she wanted to achieve.

We used a tool I call the Professional Wheel of Balance.

The Wheel of Balance is a big circle that is categorised into eight different pieces: Leadership, purpose, work-life balance, enjoying your workday, job fulfilment, opportunity, rewards and relationships.

The purpose of it is to assess your current work situation and see how in, or out of balance it is.

In the middle of the circle, you have, 0% and at the outer of the circle, you have 100%.

You rate, for example, the leadership in your current organisation on this scale from zero to 100.

Next, you might rate the relationships - relationships internally, with your colleagues, externally and so on.

You go around the whole circle and this gives you an idea about where you're currently at and then you move the needle.

You might envisage what it would it look like to have 100% on leadership.

You’d think about what your definition of great leadership would be and why it was important to you.

You’d then assess what you needed to do to move that dial.

Maybe you're not going to get it to a 100%, but acting on those findings could close that gap a little bit.

And if there is nothing you can do? Then you have your answer.

If it's something that's really important to you and you can't change it, you have to move on to another opportunity.

Often, though, you come up with quite creative ways that you can make changes and make your work that little bit more enjoyable.

You may reignite your passion for the work and the company that you work for.

The beauty of this process is that you create an action plan, because the visual of the wheel marks out the different categories that are important to you, how much you need each of them to change and it gives you a framework to help you decide which areas need to be tackled first.

Just having this action plan can reignite the passion you have for your work, because you feel empowered, and like my client, you have the clarity you’re looking for to make that positive change.
