Career Planning For Middle Management

Career Planning For Middle Management

Meet Lidia. Lidia is a successful and ambitious Change Director with over 15 years' experience.

A few years earlier she was working for a large global organisation, she was managing big budget and working on multiple change and transformation projects.

Even though the work she was doing was challenging, the environment was far from ideal.

She had a toxic boss, there was high staff turnover in her department and the stakeholders were all playing a political game which made making any decisions almost impossible.

Lidia stayed as long as she could because she was earning good money and had all the flexibility in the world.

But after a while, her job started to affect her health and she had to resign from the position.

After a short break, she felt she was ready to put herself out there again and she started applying for a new job.

Lidia didn't get the traction she was expecting but luckily ended up with one offer for a job that seemed ok.

She took it, but only after a few months, it was clear that the job wasn't for her.

She felt underutilised and honestly, a little bit bored.

Conscious that the next role needed to be something where she could stay for a few years, she turned to me and we started working together.

Lidia’s story is not unusual.

In fact, a lot of people I know are in a similar situation and they are all guilty of the same thing.

They have a career by default, not design.

So, what do I mean by that?

They have never been intentional or strategic about their career choices… never had a plan…

And this is a sure way to kill your career and any chance you have of getting ahead.

Because, if you’re not intentional about your career, you won't have shaped a personal brand that can influence the right people to get you to the next level.

So when something happens such as a redundancy, end of contract or when you simply want to leave your current job…

...you have to start from scratch and you often don't know where to start.

So, now you are aware of the importance of being intentional about your career, you can make different choices.

You can keep doing what you're doing, not sure of the outcome and if you'll ever get the career you want....

Or, you can take control, just like Lidia did, and learn how to move your career from default to design, shape your personal brand and increase your influence.

If you are ready for the next step, I want to invite you to join my brand new program: Personal Branding For Career Success.
